New Wii exclusive Sonic and the Black Knight mixes hedgehogs with Arthurian legend.
Sonic fighting armored foes with a sword? "Why not?" asks Sega, as they have announced Sonic and the Black Knight for the Wii. The new title will join Sonic and the Secret Rings in what Sega is now calling the "Storybook Series," which casts the iconic hedgehog in various time periods and mythologies.
Developed by Sonic Team in Japan, Black Knight will see Sonictaking up a sword to face medieval-themed enemies and environments.Does Sonic with a weapon seem odd? It's certainly not any stranger thanthe gun-toting hedgehogs or werewolves (sorry, werehogs) found in certain other installments of the long-running Sega franchise.
While the swordplay element may not appeal to some fans, Sega promisesan "irresistible cast of characters" that will learn "what it takes tobe a true hero and the ultimate knight." Add in rumors of waggle-basedblade-waving, and we're probably not looking at a return to form forthe blue blur any time soon.
But if you're willing to look at the bright side, not one or two but
threenew Sonic games will soon be on the market. So what will it be, Sonicfans? Will you take your Sonic with werewolves, swords, or the Dark Brotherhood?
